Helping Young Carers - Support us as we walk the Hertfordshire Way

Founded by and for unpaid carers, Carers in Hertfordshire currently supports 39,000 (2022) unpaid carers across the county, including over 2,300 young carers under 18 years old. 

Young carers are children who help look after a relative - often their parents or a sibling - with a disability, illness, mental health condition, or drug or alcohol problem. 

Your support will directly affect the lives of over 2,300 young carers across Hertfordshire, enabling these young people to live as normal a life as possible with opportunities for growth and achievement in line with their peers, through programmes like:

• Carer support advisors: Young Carer Advisors work with families to ensure that young carers can access the same opportunities as their peers
• Carers’ Passport providing free and discount services at over 400 locations
• The Young Carers’ Council which leads on an annual young carers conference and co-produces the support we provide to young carers
• Young carers activities and overnight residentials, allowing young carers to meet other young carers, develop new skills and broaden horizons
• Support through big changes in life, like moving to secondary school, choosing subject options or moving into work or further education
